Gulino is a bridge: between content and matter, between art and life, between thought and image. And he paints bridges as well—bridges that are solid or precarious, taut cables stretched between the beast and the Übermensch, suspended above dark, profound abysses, always teetering toward something uncertain. These are oil paintings or mixed media works, with brushstrokes that are at times swift and gestural, at times slow and measured—slashes of color that trace movement, a possible path where sign and material coexist along the unstable boundary between figuration and abstraction (…).
